Millennium Challenge Account - Tanzania

Stakeholders Committee Print
Stakeholders committees/RCCs
During consultative meetings in the proposed project areas, stakeholders have demonstrated an outstanding level of enthusiasm and overwhelming support to the prospects of having such projects. It became apparent that regional leadership in the target areas are more than willing to provide the required assistance geared towards raising the quality of life and social well being of the people in the program areas.
In view of the above reasons, and the need to make sure that project beneficiaries are kept informed throughout the five year Compact term, MCA-T work through the established GoT stakeholders mechanism known as Regional Consultative Committees (RCCs) for mainland and Regional Development Committee (RDC) for Zanzibar. These committees are taken as forums for an exchange of information and co-ordination of activities that are complementary or inter-related, and make observations on the best ways they think things need to be done for the benefit of the people.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Stakeholders meeting
The Stakeholders Committees will not have decision-making authority, but will serve as a mechanism for on-going consultation between MCA_T and the public. Specific roles include:-
a)To provide advice and input to the MCA-T Governing Board and Management Unit regarding issues related to the implementation of the Program;
b)To receive regular Program updates from MCA-T;
c)To ensure that MCA-T project(s) in the respective regions are put in the agenda of the RCC meetings for discussion;
d)To team up with MCA-T Secretariat in order to ensure that project beneficiaries are kept well informed.

MCA-T has agreed with authorities from the following regions, i.e Dar es salaam, Morogoro, Coast, Dodoma, Iringa, Mbeya, Songea, Ruvuma, Tanga, Mwanza, Kigoma, Kaskazini Pemba and Mjini Magharibi to use regularly scheduled  RCCs/ RDCs. The MCC funded projects will be taken as specific agenda items to be covered in all regularly scheduled RCC meetings. The main objective is to make sure that RCCs are briefed on the latest project implementation news in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
For the last year 2008,  MCA-T has attended RCCs/ RDCs in Tanga, Kigoma, Morogoro, Coast, Songea and  Urban West Unguja regions.
