Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) is a parastatal organization that was established in 1964 and is wholly owned by The Government of Tanzania. The Ministry of Energy and Minerals regulates the operations of TANESCO.

The Company's core business is generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to the Tanzania Mainland and bulk power supply to the island of Zanzibar. Distribution of electricity in Zanzibar and Pemba is the responsibility of the Zanzibar Electricity Supply Corporation (ZECO).

TANESCO has a workforce of 4,670 persons. 754 are employed at the Head Office, 420 at Hydro plants and 3,722 across the 23 regional offices. The team comprises of extremely qualified personnel who are trained locally and abroad.

The current Board of Directors comprises of eight members from the Government, public and private sectors. Apart from the Chairman, all members of the Board of Directors are appointed by the Minister for Energy and Minerals. The Chairman is appointed by the President of United Republic of Tanzania.
